We’ve all heard of the Boston Marathon. It’s the world’s oldest annual marathon and has been named one of the world’s most prestigious road racing events. People from around the world train month after month to qualify as one of the 30,000 coveted participants.
With 500,000 spectators cheering you on, your adrenaline might push you past your normal limits, but running 26.2 miles is still no easy feat. Now, imagine competing each of those miles using only your arms to power your body across the finish line! That’s what lies ahead for the athletes from the Achilles Freedom Team of Wounded Veterans—a group that travels across the country to tackle such endurance events (14 this year!) using handcycles—and they’ll be taking on the Boston Marathon this coming Monday, April 20, 2015.
This year is Boston’s 119th annual marathon, and we’re thrilled to support our friends at Achilles International by offering up each member of their 20-member team a pair of custom painted Green Metallic Bluez 2 bone conduction headphones. Though many organized marathon events either discourage the use of headphones or ban them entirely, the open ear design of AfterShokz headphones have earned the brand the designation of being “marathon approved”. Most recently, participants in last week’s Brighton Marathon and the Ascis’ Greater Manchester Marathon slated for this Sunday are only allowed to wear headphones if they are completely open ear—like AfterShokz!
This funky new color is sure to make a statement on the track next week, especially because the team is getting this color before public availability has even been scheduled! They’ll be able to wirelessly connect to mobile devices to either listen to a fave playlist that gets them going or chat with a friend for some mid-race encouragement—all without blocking the cheers of the 500,000 fans lining the streets, or any of the other critical sounds like race announcements and warnings.
We’re so thankful to each of you for your service to our country! Though it’s only a small token of our gratitude, being able to deliver you some entertainment during the event without compromising your safety is the least we can do. You’re our heroes! Each and every one of us at AfterShokz—from our US headquarters in Syracuse, NY, to our engineering and production house in Shenzhen, China—will be cheering you on! Best of luck!
